I was taught that only man has a soul and that animals are different kinds of creatures, with no soul or feelings. I disagree entirely with this concept, because we were once so-called primitive; man is not detached from the other living creatures, but has evolved from them and, after all, the next life would be terribly boring without these other lovely creatures that have contributed to make our lives more pleasant. Knowing that chimpanzees, orang-utans and gorillas are extremely similar to us, our genes being almost identical, that these species are, in turn, very similar to others and that we all evolved from the same branch, why would God be so egotistical to have privileged only humans? Would chimpanzees, orang-utans and gorillas be in line to receiving a soul? Or have they already got one? Wouldn’t lovely common marmosets be touched by God’s hand at the same time? Another important question is that man was once a primitive creature, living in caves, hunting to survive, with no elaborate language, behaving as cannibals, killing each other and what’s more is that we were once not really human-looking, like we are nowadays. So I assume that those who believe that only man has a soul would be reluctant to believe that these non-human creatures would have had a soul. Thus, I ask: when exactly in evolution did man become human and consequently, receive a soul? Did this primitive creature have a soul back then? All creatures are formed by molecules arranged in a specific way, which make them look like a bush dog, a coati or a snake. The molecules that form my body today may, in the past, have belonged to a tree, to a bacterium, to a frog or to the litter in the forest. This breaks down the concept that humans are a kind of isolated and privileged creature, detached from the rest of the beings. The same molecules blessed in man that are worthy of a soul are the same molecules that once formed the body of the frog, or the coati, and these same molecules, when a man dies, will disarrange themselves again to form another matter. They were, nevertheless, blessed once though, and will still carry a little of God’s hand in it. Therefore, if a soul is to exist, I assume that it is a condition of any living thing, which is formed by blessed atoms and molecules, the principle and the end of beings, the alpha and the omega. Animals News 27.04.2022 Comments Off on Stuffed Lamb Animals Make The Perfect Toy
The very famous nursery rhyme, Mary Had a Little Lamb, was originally written as a poem and published in 1830. You may be surprised to learn that the story is based on an actual event; Mary did in fact have a baby lamb which her brother encouraged her to take to school. There happened to be a visitor there that day who was so taken with the entire incident that the next day he came back and gave Mary a piece of paper which contained the three original stanzas of the poem.
While we all can’t be Mary and own lambs (or take them to school), we can have stuffed lambs as pets instead. Who can resist these adorable baby animals? Stuffed lambs are soft and cuddly, much like the real thing. While we tend to think of most plush toys as comforts for our children, lambs in particular fit that bill more than most. When our children are sick, or when they can’t fall asleep, we may reach for stuffed lambs to help comfort them (though a stuffed lamb toy is good anytime!). One look at a stuffed lambs face and your child will be soothed instantly.
The term lamb is not surprisingly, used as a term of endearment, particularly when referring to children; my little lamb, pet lamb, and precious lamb are some of the more common ones. Lambs signify purity and meekness, all traits we see in our children, especially the very young, thus the use of such a fond term as [‘lamb’] is an appropriate one for our kids.
Given lambs also represent innocence, stuffed lambs make excellent gifts and are often given to parents of new born babies. Stuffed lambs have the most sweet and appealing faces they are always made to look like a picture of happiness. In addition, stuffed lambs can be purchased in a variety of body positions; you can buy stuffed lambs standing (on two or four legs), sitting, and lying down.
If collecting plush toys is something that interests you or your child, stuffed lambs would make an excellent addition. They come in a wide variety of colors and like with all plush toys, you can dress them up in hats and coats (to name a few) if that interests you.
While most baby animals (like lambs, bunnies, and chicks) tend to remind us of spring and renewal, we don’t have to wait until then for our child to be able to snuggle up with a plush one. That said, stuffed lambs are an ideal gift at any time of the year and you’ll be guaranteed that your child won’t go to sleep without it once they have one!
Animals News 27.04.2022 Comments Off on Protect Your Pets In A Disaster, Do Not Leave Them If You Have To Evacuate.
Prepare emergency supplies and a traveling kit for your pets. Keep an Evac-Pack and supplies handy for your pets. Make sure that everyone in the family knows where it is. This kit should be clearly labeled and easy to carry. Items to consider keeping in or near your pack include: a) pet first-aid kit and guidebook; b) a 3-7 days’ worth of canned (pop-top) or dry food (be sure to rotate every two months); c) disposable litter trays along with litter or paper toweling; d) liquid dish soap, disinfectant and disposable garbage bags for clean up; e) pet feeding dishes along with water; and f) extra harness and leash.
Other items that can be added to the pet emergency pack are: 1) photocopies of medical records and a waterproof container with a two-week supply of any medicine your pet requires; 2) a traveling bag, crate or sturdy carrier, ideally one for each pet; 3) blanket (for scooping up a fearful pet); 4) recent photos of your pets (in case you are separated and need to make “Lost” posters); 5) for cats have a pillowcase or Evack Sack, some toys, and scoop able litter; and 6) especially for dogs have a long leash with a yard stake and chew toys.
Take considerable time and thought when choosing a designated caregiver who will care for your pets. When choosing a temporary caregiver, consider someone who lives close to your residence. He or she should be someone who is generally home during the day while you are at work or has easy access to your home. A set of keys should be given to this trusted individual. This may work well with neighbors who have pets of their own; you may even swap responsibilities, depending upon who has accessibility.
When selecting a permanent caregiver, youll need to consider other criteria. This is a person to whom you are entrusting the care of your pet in the event that something should happen to you. When selecting this “foster parent,” consider people who have met your pet and have successfully cared for animals in the past. Be sure to discuss your expectations at length with a permanent caregiver, so he or she understands the responsibility of caring for your pet.
Animals News 27.04.2022 Comments Off on Help Prevent Wild Animals From Coming To Your House
Nocturnal wild animals often times wander to rural areas to look for substance. To help keep wild animals from wandering you will want to remove any chow on the property. Here are a few suggestions of how to prevent wild animals from entering into your property.
Make sure to put away all food substances for your pets in the evening.
Make sure garbage cans have tight lids or are put away within tight bins. Plastic trash bags are not secure enough to prevent a creature from scavenging through for food.
Keep your garden secure with fencing and make sure to pick any ripened fruit. Clean up all the fruit that falls from trees.
Make sure doggy doors or any pet doors locked at night when you can.
Use venting on the exterior of your home or on gaps below structures and decks. Make sure and seal anything that leads into a structure. Structures such as decks or patios are often used by wild animals seeking shelter from storms. Prevention measures can be used around the perimeter of the deck to help keep wild animals out. If you are not sure if you have wild life coming onto your residence, use flour to spread in the suspected area. Check the next day to see if there are any wild life tracks.
To help prevent desert wild animals from entering or destroying your lawn you may need to control insects and pests. Animals will burrow deep in your yard to find insects. Check your neighborhood hardware store to see if they have pesticides. Make sure the pesticides are pet friendly.
Wild animals often use trees to climb onto the tops of homes. Wild animals will use trees often up to ten feet away to jump onto a roof. Wild animals may jump from or even climb vines near the home to get onto the roof top.
Never feed or provide water for lurking wild animals. Animals may come to believe anywhere they are fed as being home.
Swimming pools are a source of water for thirsty wild animals. Strong fencing with some sort of a screen will help detour the wild animals.
Make sure and don’t handle wild animals by yourself. The game and fish organization will handle physical removal. It is highly likely that it is against the law for you to remove them away from your neighborhood.
Animals News 24.04.2022 Comments Off on Adjustable Pet Wheelchairs Give Animals New Freedom
Dog Wheelchairs are for pets afflicted with hip dysplasia, paralysis, arthritis, degenerative myelopathy, intervertebral discs, spinal injury, amputation, or due to any other condition that may have affected their hindmost limbs.
If your beloved pet is incapable to live an energetic life because of any of these disabilities, then dog wheelchairs can be the answer to give your pet its much needed freedom. In order for the pets to be able to use wheelchairs, they need to have reasonably strong front legs to assist traction. (The pet ought to be capable of walking with the help of its forelimbs without falling over etc, except if it is caused by being paralytic for a long period.) Animals that have weak front legs and were not really active before their disability, may be better assisted by support harness with straps. With assistance from a wheelchair, your pet may enjoy most of its desired activities like running, walking, playing.
Animals that are limited by their weak hind legs benefit from Pet Carts, which allow them to exercise longer and with higher intensity. The pets that suffer from a degenerative disorder should be put on wheelchair before they lose their ability to move around by themselves. By doing so, the physical ill health of such dogs will be better than what it would be without wheelchairs. Canine Wheelchairs make superb aids for rehabilitation, especially if your pet is recovering from surgery. You can even rent them if your pet needs it temporarily. One commonplace question asked is whether the pet can urinate and defecate while using the wheelchair. Yes. The support harness with straps is specifically intended to let the animal defecate and urinate while in its wheelchair. Can you use a wheelchair for other animals besides dogs? Of course, they could be used on cats as well. Dog Mobility Aids are even intended for animals such as goats, ferrets and rabbits.
In case your pet has weak forelimbs and needs your assistance for small walks or going up and down the stairs, there are also the harness straps supports which come separately with these k9 wheelchairs. The idea is to give your older dog the right type of support.
There are two types of dog wheelchairs, custom and adjustable. The older custom Dog Carts are quickly becoming obsolete. They require dozens of measurements, take weeks to build, and cannot be adjusted as the dog changes and grows. New adjustable wheelchairs can be ordered overnight without complex measurements, adjusted to fit your dog perfectly, and fitted to another dog in the future if re-sold or donated.
Samuel Iams is an independent contributor for pet magazines and websites like Dog Wheelchair. In addition, he is a poet, a noted breakfast chef, and a writer of children’s books. Animals News 10.04.2022 Comments Off on Feral Hogs To Be poster Pigs For Alleged Cruelty To Animals In Texas
I need to stay on the subject of feral hogs this week to take note of the animal rights folks attempt to derail the Texas Department of Agricultures Get the Hog Outta Texas campaign. Agriculture Commissioner Todd Staples recently announced a county grant program to control feral hogs, which are rapidly becoming Texas number one pest problem. Under the pretense of an effort to reduce cruelty to animals in Texas, some want to stop the program.
In a blog post title Hog Out is Out of Line on the Care2 blog, Staples was urged to consider more humane means of dealing with this porcine menace. Im sitting here scratching my head, trying to figure out what form that might take. Anyone out there know of a place we could keep 2 million wild hogs? How about petting zoos? No, scratch that, kids would lose fingers. Maybe a traditional zoo would work, though I cant imagine anyone wanting to view them in their natural habitat, which is about anywhere they want to be. They are too wild to be companion pigs, guard pigs, drug sniffing pigs or seeing-eye pigs. I cant come up with anything. Any help out there?
It will be interesting to see if feral hogs become poster pigs for the animal rights movements perceived notion of cruelty to animals in Texas. They are poor choice as a symbol for any movement, even one as misguided as this. These animals are ugly, mean, destructive, wild, and carry diseases with the potential to devastate wildlife and livestock populations. They have been known to attack people and cause traffic accidents. They are also very cunning.
I use the word cunning instead of smart. Dont misunderstand. They arent studying for algebra tests, but they are very adept at escaping detection and fleeing from efforts to control them. They are also, apparently, quite amorous. They breed like rabbits.
Controlling feral hogs is absolutely essential. The damage they do to agriculture and increasingly, many urban areas, is costly. Their occasional clashes with people can be dangerous. No method of reducing their numbers will be easy, but weve got to start somewhere.
Solutions are like noses. Everybody has one. I suspect this is one of those cases where its someone elses problem, so its really not that important.
I admit it. Im a people first kind of guy. This is not about cruelty to animals in Texas or anywhere else. This is about a serious problem with only one solution. It should be done as humanely as possible. But it has to be done.
