Visitors to Zoo Atlanta will find plenty of fun family activities going on at the zoo this fall. Guests may enjoy a family festival, special animal encounters, overnight zoo events, and Boo at the Zoo. They should be sure to stop by and check out some of the zoos newest babies that were born in late summer. There are two new golden lion tamarins, an endangered primate species native to Brazil. There is also a blue crane chick that was incubated by a peahen after its mother suddenly died. Zoo visitors can also ride the carousel and the train or try the rock climbing wall for an additional fee.
Visitors will find plenty of activities to entertain during Play the Animal Way, which is scheduled for September 29, 2012. Stations throughout the zoo will include special feedings, training demonstrations, keeper talks, and crafts. The activities will take place from 10am-4pm and are included with general admission.
Fiesta de la Familia is scheduled for October 7. Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month at the Zoo with Spanish translated keeper talks and animal encounters. Zoo visitors will also enjoy live entertainment, crafts, and a meet and greet with Dora the Explorer and Diego. All activities are included with general admission.
Family & Deluxe Nightcrawler events allow families to see what goes on at the zoo after visiting hours. Attendees spend the night at the zoo and can participate in activities such as scavenger hunts, games, private tours, and special animal encounters. Reservations are required, and an additional fee is charged. A Nightcrawler event is planned for October 20.
Boo at the Zoo is one of Atlantas favorite family Halloween festivals. Activities include a costume contest with prizes, special treats, and seasonal games and activities. Come meet the characters in Zoo Boo Town, explore the magical paths, and wind through the Hay Maze. Separate times are scheduled for three different age groups.
Visitors can enjoy lunch or snacks at the zoo. Seasonal restaurants serve hot dogs, sandwiches, and other treats. Dine in comfort in the air conditioned/heated Wild Planet Caf, which is open year round. The menu includes chicken, pizza, burgers, and salads. Zoo Atlanta is located at 800 Cherokee Avenue SE. The zoo is open daily except Thanksgiving and Christmas. Hours are 9:30am-5:30pm on Monday-Friday and 9:30am-6:30pm on Saturday and Sunday. Admission is $20.99 for adults, $15.99 for seniors age 65 and older, and $15.99 for children ages 3-11. Children age 2 and under are admitted free.
